Dec 2024 - Kekeno Substation

Site excavation work in 2020 on the original 33/11kV substation

Decom has been awarded a contract by PowerNet to construct, test, and commission a new 66/11kV substation at Awarua in Southland. This upgrade will support load growth at the Awaura Open Country Dairy Factory.

As part of this project, a new 66kV transmission line will be constructed from Invercargill GXP to the new Kekeno Substation. The project also involves a substantial upgrade at Invercargill TransPower Substation, to enable the supply at 66kV from this point.

Decom were the construction contractor in the original 33/11kV Substation at Open Country Dairy in 2020.

This project has a completion deadline of late August 2025.
