Neutral Earthing Resistor Installations

Enhanced safety and compliance across the power network

In adherence to the EEA Guide to Power System Earthing Practice 2009, PowerNet engaged Decom for the installation of Neutral Earthing Resistors (NERs) at substations under its management.

This initiative aimed to enhance safety and compliance within the electrical infrastructure.

Commencing in 2016, this comprehensive project saw the installation of 29 NERs across the TPC, EIL, and OtagoNet Networks. Furthermore, additional NER installations were integrated into major projects, reinforcing PowerNet's commitment to improving the resilience and efficiency of its power systems.

The project presented a host of challenges.

It encompassed various aspects, including civil engineering works, high-voltage electrical systems, protection mechanisms, and SCADA integration.

The complexities of this endeavor were compounded by limited access to equipment, underscoring the need for careful planning and execution to ensure the successful implementation of NERs across the network.
