Centre Bush Substation Project
Expanding the transmission network into the Oreti Valley
This project in Central Southland was a strategic initiative to strengthen the region’s electrical infrastructure and accommodate the growing demand for power in Northern Southland.
At the core of this effort was the construction of a new substation to replace the existing Center Bush 33/11kV Substation. This work was part of a broader plan to extend the 66kV transmission network into the Oreti Valley, marking a pivotal advancement for the area.
The centerpiece of the project was the building of a brand-new substation at the original Center Bush site.
The project began in November 2016 with preparations to decommission the existing substation. To ensure voltage stability during reconstruction, an 11kV regulator was installed. In January 2017, the old substation was removed, followed by civil construction work later that month. The project was completed on August 2, 2017, with the successful commissioning of the new Center Bush 66/11kV Substation.
2017
The project was successfully completed with the commissioning of the new 66/11kV supply into Centre Bush Substation and 11kV supplies to the surrounding area.
